Nautical information is a Maritime Safety Information (MSI) necessary or simply useful to mariners to support Safety Of Life At Sea (SOLAS). The use of this information allows mariners to update their nautical documents to be as close to reality as possible.
As a national coordinator, the Division of Hydrography, Oceanography, and Cartography (DHOC) ensures the collection, the processing and dissemination of this information.The nature of this information, its importance and urgency allow to distinguish between urgent, rapid and deferred information.
The DHOC disseminates urgent information via Navigational Warning (NW). It also broadcasts monthly a group of notice to mariners to update their nautical charts and publications. Deferred information is only used during the production of new nautical documents editions.
