ABOUT US

The Division of Hydrography, Oceanography and Cartography (DHOC) is a department of the General Staff of the Royal Moroccan Navy, headed by a senior officer, appointed by His Majesty the King, Supreme Chief and Chief of the General Staff of the Royal Armed Forces, May God assist him.

Fulfilling the missions of a National Hydrographic Service, the DHOC has made a significant contribution throughout its history, to the revitalization of hydro-oceanographic and cartographic activities, at either national level or regional and international ones, by maintaining a close cooperation with many national and international partners working in these fields.

  1. 1985

    Creation of ‘Hydrographic and Oceanographic Service’of the Royal Moroccan Navy (SHOMAR).

  2. 2004

    The SHOMAR became ‘Division of Hydrography and Cartography’ (DHC).

  3. 2007

    The DHC has been renamed ‘Division of Hydrography, Oceanography and Cartography (DHOC).

  4. 2014

    The DHOC fulfilled the missions of a National Hydrographic Service.

  5. 2018

    Besides its main missions as National Hydrographic Service, the DHOC became the National Coordinator for navigational warnings.

MISSIONS

Created by Dahir N ° 1-14-84 of 25 Hija 1435 (20th October, 2014), the Division of Hydrography, Oceanography and Cartography (DHOC) of the Royal Moroccan Navy is responsible for ensuring several missions related to various hydro-oceanographic and cartographic fields.

MISSIONS

The collection, storage, processing and representation on paper and digital supports, of the data necessary for knowledge of the hydrographic and oceanographic environment, in order to insure the safety of navigation.

MISSIONS

The development, updating and dissemination, when they are not confidential, of nautical charts and documents related to maritime areas under national jurisdiction.

The coordination and exchange of information with public administrations, involved in the fields of hydrography, oceanography and cartography.

Participation in works related to the delimitation of national maritime boundaries.

Representation of the Kingdom of Morocco in International and Regional Maritime Organizations.

Hydrographic

To carry out its hydrographic and oceanographic surveys, the Division of Hydrography, Oceanography and Cartography (DHOC) has the following equipment :

  • EA400 Single-beam Echosounder;
  • LEICA GNSS Receiver;
  • Valeport SVP;
  • PCs for data acquisition and processing.
A 15-meter hydrographic boat ‘H01’ equipped with:
  • Kongsberg EM2040C Multibeam-Echosounder;
  • EA440 Single-beam Echosounder;
  • ADNAV GNSS Receiver;
  • Hull Valeport SVP;
  • Valeport-MIDAS SVP;
  • Sediment sampling bucket;
  • PCs for data acquisition and processing;
  • C-MAX lateral sonar.

Bateau Hydro-océanographique
A 72-meter hydro-oceanographic vessel, with two hydrographic boats onboard equipped with:
  • EM 302 deep seabed Multibeam Echosounder;
  • EM 2040 shallow water Multibeam Echosounder;
  • EM 2040C shallow water Multibeam Echosounder;
  • EA 640 Single-beam Echosounder;
  • EA 440 Single-beam Echosounder;
  • Sub-bottom Profiler;
  • C-MAX Side Scan Sonar;
  • USBL Positioning System (HIPAP);
  • Acoustic Doppler Current Profiler (38-150Khz);
  • Hull Valeport mini-SVP;
